If you are like most bird lovers, you hate leaving your birds when you travel. You can arrange for friends and neighbors to take care of your loved ones; but often, they are too busy, and you don't like to impose....and most people just don't know how to properly handle a bird! Our service provides your bird and their furry friends the care they need while you're away.

Today, 6 birds own us. Since we are very active in aviculture, we know we are not the only people to love and care for birds and have so many. Needless to say going away is not easy... And of course, many people that have birds also have dogs and cats. (us too! We are also owned by 2 dogs, a cat, some fish...and even a lizard.) Thus we frequently get calls to care for our four legged furry friends in their homes and enjoy doing so.

We come to your home and care for your animals. We love all animals and understand their unique needs! With The Bird Sitter you are assured reliable and responsible service. You can leave home with the peace of mind knowing that you have left your animals in our good hands.

Depending on scheduling, your birds will be taken care of by either Erin (me), Doug (my husband) or Daniel (our eldest son) or sometimes a combination... We are very observant during our visits and make note of birds that show a preference to men or women and do our best to accommodate those situations accordingly. We do our morning sits between 6 & 9 a.m. in most cases. Evening sits are generally between 6 & 9 p.m.

Nail & Wing Trimming

For aesthetic reasons, some people leave the last one or two outside primaries and clip the ones closer to the body. This is not recommended for two reasons. First, a bird may be able to get a lot of lift from these primaries, especially if he gets loose outside and finds a gust of wind. Second, these feathers will have little support from surrounding feathers and are more likely to break.

We cauterize nails for safety as well as sterilization.

Cost:

  • Wings: $9/bird
  • Nails: $9/bird
  • Both: $15
